Concept Environment - DELTA

Delta is a 4 month student project. It's a contemplative exploration game about Trisha, a priestess from a nomadic tribe, who manage to reach the world of her Gods. At first amazed, she realizes soon enough that this world is not what she expected. Lost and alone, her only chance is to go forward.

The idea of Delta was to explore a world unwelcoming for a character, combining giant monolithic places, huge brutalist inspired structures, non Euclidian spaces, distortion of space and time, etc... We wanted to question the faith of the character being at the same time close to her Gods but also realizing the insignificance of mankind for them.

For the concept art I used references such as Dune of Denis Villeneuve, the work of Escher, the drawings of Baranger illustrating the world of Lovecraft. I wanted to create a atmosphere of un-welcomness, of un-ease, combining modern unknown material and shape such as concrete brustalist megastructure and natural environment like canyon and sand. But the main goal was to make the charcter feel extremely small, illustrating the message that we wanted to convey. You belived in the Gods like caring protectors but they are in fact huge creatures minding their things, no paying any attention to you.
