Board Environnment Concept - ASCEND

Ascend is a 4 month student game done with a team of 5. It's a card game where you confront enemies to rise to the top of a tower in order make your ascension. You can summon powerful creatures and use different elements to either boost your board or control the enemy's one.

I wasin charge of the design of the cards borders, and some of the cards illustrations like Bao, the Playfull Aracanist (which you can see on my other post) and of the concept of the board which you can see in this post.

The work on the board were really interesting, I tried to observe how others games like Heartstone or TFT were dealing with there respective board. As our story is about heroes grinding, floor after floor, to reach the top of a tower like structure I wanted from the start to have an "open" board. I used many references taken from gothic churches, ancient Egyptians temples and stylized environment to create a board with a strong personality, in line with our story and keeping visibility to a maximum. I worked especially with Yann Esparbié on this environment as he was the one in charge of doing the modeling and texturing.
